At the height of the pandemic in 2021, Claudio Orrego’s gubernatorial campaign in Santiago, Chile brought me on as a content strategist and video producer. My role spanned daily video production, real-time event coverage, and the execution of a livestream strategy that helped him secure victory in the election.
Each day, I produced, edited, and published short-form content documenting Claudio’s movements, from local visits to key policy messages. I traveled with his team to film fresh content and deliver it within hours. Our goal: maintain visibility and relatability across platforms without delay.
In addition to filming and editing daily content, I developed a full multi-platform content calendar to organize the campaign’s digital communication across Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. This ensured a steady stream of high-quality posts tied to Claudio’s field visits, weekly themes, and key policy moments. I also created short-form video series such as “Una Mañana con Claudio”, which depicted Orrego's day-to-day activities in a cinematic, accessible format, and “Lo Que Viene”, a weekly recap and forecast used to maintain narrative continuity with voters.
To expand reach, I identified and activated a young voter segment by experimenting with meme formats. By inserting humor and irony into political messaging, I was able to grow Instagram engagement by over 160%, especially among urban 18–30 year-olds. These meme posts generated up to 4x the interaction rate of traditional policy content, making them essential for final-stage visibility and relatability.
On the visual side, I animated the campaign’s official logo and exported it in .mov format with alpha transparency. This allowed the internal editing team to plug and play the logo across reels, livestreams, and video edits, reducing turnaround time and keeping all assets visually unified. I also developed video templates and motion graphics systems that were later reused by five different editors across the campaign’s media operations.
One of my most impactful contributions was the design and execution of the “Cabildos” livestream system. I branded and streamed 52 community-led digital town halls using OBS and Zoom, reaching every comuna of Santiago. These town halls averaged over 600 live viewers and maintained an average watch time of 7+ minutes — unusually high for political streaming. The format not only humanized the campaign but also allowed Claudio to have real-time dialogues with constituents across the city, reinforcing transparency and trust.
These strategies played a measurable role in the campaign’s success. Claudio Orrego won the election, with record turnout in key districts which overlapped directly with our livestream and youth outreach efforts. The combination of rapid content production, meme-based virality, and consistent livestreaming created a digital backbone that kept the campaign present and personal in the middle of a pandemic.
